The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is the main institution of the country concerned with investigating 9/11, recording its effects, and analyzing its continuing relevance. It is at the heart of our effort to remember those who were killed in the attacks of 2001 and 1993.
The holy mission is to commemorate the 2,983 people killed through commemoration, awareness, and inspiration in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and 26 February 1993. We are fulfilling this mission by bringing millions into the Memorial & Museum of 9/11 and our interactive offerings. During this temporary closure we invite you to join us in this extraordinary period for stories of inspiration and hope, while we remain committed to fulfilling our mission to the fullest degree.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum, located at the World Trade Center in New York City, tells the story of 9/11 through media, accounts and a selection of historic and genuine objects, bringing to visitors personal stories of tragedy, recovery, and hope.
The Museum tells the 9/11 story through artifacts, images, personal stories and immersive technology. Read about the main exhibits, special displays, and rotating galleries in the 110,000 square meter area of the museum. The collection houses over 71,000 items including three-dimensional artifacts, ephemeral artifacts, textiles, artwork, and manuscripts and books. Explore examples of museum collections including salvaged remains of World Trade Center buildings, personal belongings and memorabilia, homage and commemoration words, and much more.
The Memorial is open 7:30 a.m. everyday. By 9 P.M. The museum is open from 9 a.m. Sunday till Thursday. By 8 P.M. and from 9 am on Friday and Saturday by 9 P.M.
On-street parking is highly scarce in Lower Manhattan. Parking is not given at the Memorial.
In Manhattan, a convenient, nearby parking choice is the Battery Parking Garage which hosts the annual Tribute in Light installation. For directions to the Battery Parking Garage at 70 Greenwich Street, check Google Map. There are alternative entrances at 81 Washington Street and 20 Morris Lane. Parking services at SP+ also include parking near to the Memorial and Museum. Before driving, please test the current conditions on the route.
Everything is done to perfection about the Memorial. For victims and first responders, it is insightful, emotional, filled with respect. To be on the site of the incidents and to be constructed around it is so special for a museum. It brings a gravitas to the experience as a whole. Exploring the memorial can take 3-4 hours easily and it is highly recommended downloading the app in advance to do an audio tour as you go.
