Central Park
New York, NY, United States
Central Park has been the paradise of the city dweller since day one: a green, wide-open refuge from the swarming cityscape just past its perimeter. It began as a citizen-led movement to revitalize this important resource and became a lifelong dedication to the Park’s wellbeing and, in effect, that of all New Yorkers. To date, the Conservancy has spent more than $1bn in this project, whose influence is beyond measure.
The evidence is in the Park. In each landscape resurrected, the body of water renewed, and the memorial restored, we both retain the past of Central Park and reinforce its durability. This is inspired by an overwhelming respect for Central Park — a marvel of landscape architecture, an accessible respite from urban life, and an invaluable asset to the world’s biggest city.
Central Park is an urban park located between the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side, in Manhattan, New York. It is New York City’s fifth-largest park by area, covering 843 hectares.
Central Park Conservancy preserves the ecosystems, buildings, and bodies of water that make up the urban oasis of New York City. Central Park is continually evolving as with any living thing. The Conservancy is committed to ensuring that this development is thoughtful — both considerate of the tourist of today, and true to the original intent of the Park.
Central Park is for the people and Conservancy provides a range of public initiatives aimed at strengthening the community’s dedication to the Park and fostering appreciation through intimate, meaningful, and memorable experiences.
Conservancy tours, designed to encourage a deeper engagement with the Park, deliver everything from fresh perspectives on iconic views to intimate glimpses of the best-kept secrets of the Park. Ongoing activities, such as seasonal initiatives for families and communities, encourage year-round education, stewardship, and teamwork.
The Conservancy leverages the popularity and prosperity of Central Park to uplift public parks everywhere. The Urban Parks Institute brings together experts from around the world to learn best management and stewardship practices for parks. It’s a good place to go to avoid all the loudness in Manhattan. There are lakes, rivers, a zoo, nature walking trails (The Ramble), carriage rides, beautiful bridges and fountains, etc. It’s good for both visitors and locals to just feel like you are going away. You can row a boat around in the lake during the warmer months. It’s ideal for a barbecue, sunbathing or a game of softball.
