A multifaceted Midtown city.Murray Hill was recognized in the early 1900’s as a high quality district of beautiful brownstones distinguished by the ancient charm of NYC. The Morgan Library & Museum is a legacy of renowned financialist J. P. Morgan (1837-1913) It is listed as both a National History Mark and a New York City Landmark. According to the official website of the museum, J. P. Morgan (1837-1913), a “voracious collector.” In 1924 it was donated to the city of New York as a beautiful collection of books, works of art and more.
This beautiful building is managed by the American Scandinavian Foundation in a spare, minimalist way. It houses artworks of the Scandinavian countries and occasionally performances. Scandinavia House: the Nordic Center in the United States offers language building education programs, including the Heimbold Family Children’s Playing and Learning Center (HFLC).
This is an iconic house, and no introduction is required. Completed in 1931, its name comes from one of the state’s nicknames, the Empire State because of its place in American history. It stood at an altitude of 454 feet for 40 years the tallest building in NYC until it had been surpassed in 1970 by the north tower of the World Trade Centre.
Robert Moses, the park commissioner, designed the park. With the backing of FDR, he succeeded in turning the earth into a waterfront park. It originally had an amphitheater used to perform, play and beginning exercises at high schools. But the amphitheater gradually disintegrated and then became vandalized. In the 1990s extensive reorganizations were made and in 2001, in honor of the NYC mayor in office in turbulent times, the new name was named John V. Lindsay.
St. Vartan is a large and beautiful family park that is home to the largest playground on Murray Hill and includes plenty of playground facilities, mature shade trees and picnic tables. There are racquetball courts and a farmhouse with bathrooms and panel courts for all. It is named for a graceful building not far away from the close by St. Vartan’s Cathedral.
Murray Hill isn’t considered the center of the fast, glamorous NYC lifestyle. Instead, the neighborhood is a decidedly no-frills, down-to-earth pocket of the city.
