River East Elementary School
2351 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10035, United States
History
The River East Elementary School was founded in 1982 through partnership among participating parents and educators engaged in a child-centered, progressive approach to learning. Its origins can be traced back to Debbie Meier’s Central Park East school network. Although they continue to follow progressive philosophies with constructivist approaches and a robust arts integration programme, they have also introduced a rigorous education curriculum focused on standard expectations that strives to ensure that our students master early grades of basic literacy and mathematical skills.
Mission
A vibrant learner culture that builds on its own artistic abilities and the wealth of its community is the misión of the River East Elementary School. As a collective unit of parents, faculty and staff, we ensure that all students read, write and speak, understanding and trust. All students have high expectations and we respect their individual study styles and interests. In order to deliver an inclusive, child oriented atmosphere that inspires and challenges students to become strategic thinkers and solvers of problems, we respect the learning process. Our training curriculum has the goal of fostering personal wealth and honesty, a feeling of social responsibility, self-confidence and lifelong learning appreciation.
Vision
The slogan of the school is “We’re part of something far bigger than ourselves.” The students’ motto is, “We’re part of it far stronger than ourselves.” In an attempt to discover one they have a passion for life, our students will explore arts, music , dance and theater as well.
School Arrival and Dismissal
New school time is 8:50AM – 2:20AM. Your child must arrive at school on schedule and be caught on time. In the morning, at 8:50 am, school doors will open and all students will be tested at the door to wear a mask to enter the school building. We allow students to wear their own mask, but we will do so if necessary. With families waiting outside, it is important to isolate themselves socially from others.
