- 9/22/22: New England Patriots partner with Chain.com as their blockchain partner, and in the process acquire their web3 domain (ENS) Patriots.eth for roughly $100,000, and place a $32,000 bid on the ENS domain name of their stadium, GilletteStadium.eth
- The announcement speaks to their focus on building out state of the art Web3 experiences
- Of note in the article announcing this deal was this quote: “Chain will assist Gillette Stadium in weaving compelling, one-of-a-kind experiences into this new world. While Gillette Stadium is already a world-class physical venue, the Chain partnership will bring to light the revolutionary possibilities that exist in merging the physical with the digital to redefine a best-in-class fan experience.”
- Business Use Case: I’ve long identified venues/stadiums as obvious candidates for integration of NFTs, where holding of a given NFT unlocks unique and exclusive in-game benefits at the stadium (ie: chance to go down onto the field before the game, discounts on food or merchandise, meet the players, etc). These kinds of things allow for deeper connections between teams and fans.
